I have a 1965 Plymouth valiant and I am having trouble finding a replacement choke thermostat. The current one I have looks to have gone bad by not retrieving anymore. Some car details are 3.7L 225 base model automatic transmission. The choke thermostat sits on the exhaust and connects with a rod to the carburetor. It doesn’t have any number stamping. I found some online but not the same. The one I have has what looks like it’s secured with 1 bolt and looks to have a triangular side to create a shield for heat. Pretty new to this forum wish I k we how to attache a picture.

Original engine? Original manifold? What you described sounds pretty typical. They did change a couple of times over the years.

From what I know of original engine. Manifold I can’t really say if it’s original or not. I can only say the choke thermostat is located on the manifold with a bracket that snaps into the carburetor. I did go ahead and took a heat gun to it and I did see the coil shrink/roll up. I Then blew on it and it released again. Wonder if there’s some type of spring that suppose to assist it as when the coil shrinks I don’t see it pulling anything.

Seems like a moderator should move this to the engine section.

I doubt it has much to do with suspension or brakes.

Your description indicates you have a 1973-up exhaust manifold (not surprising; that's the only kind that's been available for many years). It won't be hard to get appropriate repair parts, but let's double-check what kind of carburetor you have. Please remove the air cleaner (lid and base) and take a photo of the carburetor, then post it here.
