Post subject:  Piston blueprinting and excessive block/head milling

Hey all, hope your weekend is going well. I have a couple of questions.
I’ve seen a post about running Wiseco pistons with stock rods and was wondering why you can’t run a press-fit pin in the Wiseco pistons. Are the pins a different size between a floating and a press-fit setup? I also saw Charlie mention that if I have to run a floating setup, I can go without a bushing in the connecting rod. He says a lot of small ends aren’t thick enough for bushings — what would y’all consider too thin?
Since I’ve decided to run the short rod, I’ll have to mill the head and block quite a bit. If I take .140” off the deck (assuming factory specs), do I need to extend the threads in the block, or is there still enough engagement? Especially since I would chamfer the start of the threads to help prevent cracking. The head would also be getting .100” milled off (again assuming factory specs). I’m using ARP head studs — do I need to add an extra ARP stud washer when I install them?

I have never used the weisco pistons. However you can run any piston either floating or press type, as long as the pin diameter is correct. The problem with press/floating, rods/pistons, is you cannot run press fit pistons with floating rods (in general) due to the fact the pistons do not have lock grooves to retain the pin. With a slant six this can become an issue if trying to use the 2.2 non turbo "replacement" pistons with the K-1 or Molner rods. The 2.2 turbo pistons have the lock grooves, so can be used with either a press fit or floated rod.
Why do you prefer to use a stock rods, and mill the block a large amount? I think you would be better off using the aftermarket rods and not milling the deck except for a minimal amount.
