Apparently the old 235 Chev needs an aluminum head.



Maybe somebody could talk them into a set for us. Found this on the inliners site.

Whats the big deal about aluminum heads? Your going to spend what, a thousand at least, to save 20 or 30lbs?

I think it's pretty.

Imagine a nice fat hole in the hood to accomidate the pipes!

Oh no doubt it is purdy heh, exhaust sticking out the hood, wonder how loud that would be.

Because of the heat spread on the aluminum head you can run high compression without the problem of ping (how'd you like to run a 12.5:1 compression slant on pump gas...and not sound like a diesel and keep your advance).

I took a look at a couple of articles and that's why lots of new engines get aluminum heads, and some big block guys dial in on that advantage....

Actually, it's not so much that you can run more compression with aluminum heads, it's that you NEED to run more compression. If you build two engines, identical except for one has aluminum heads and the other has cast iron, the iron head motor will make more power. Basically every time, from what I've heard and read. They say the aluminum carries so much heat out of the combustion chamber that it reduces power somewhat, so you compensate by running more compression.

Actually this is a '50s design from Wayne Manufacturing. Newly recasted by the newly resurrected company. The big deal is that the ole chev 235 had siamesed intakes and exhaust ports. This head does not, and with this head the ole 235 was more then a match for the 283 SBC.

I think the point is, just how many 235 aluminum heads can the New Wayne Manufacturing actually sell? It cann't be more then a dozen per year. There is a certain somebody on this board that has plans for an aluminum head for a certain engine that we all love and adore. Just maybe the New Wayne Manufacturing needs another source of income and an arrangement could be made, especially if they have there own foundry facilities.

Yes, that's the old Wayne 12-port head. I think the patterns were
stored all these years. Before the chevy V8 (I believe there was also a GMC version) this was a hot item!

You should check this out for an aluminum six cylinder project.

I actually checked into doing something in aluminum for the Ford inlines, but the cost was prohibitive at the volume that I could expect. If were able to do even as many as 50, a fully machined head would have had to sell for at least $2500 a copy just to break even on the first batch.

Moss Motors sells a replacement alloy cylinder head for a six cylinder Healey. Fully machined with valves and springs it sells for $4195 - a little rich for the FordSix or SlantSix guys, I think.
