Post subject: | I'm back for a while |
Just wanted to let you guys know what's happening with me. I've been fighting a slipped disc for a while, and when I was at the Bracket Finals it ruptured on me. I can just now walk around a little again, but I can not sit in a chair or drive. I've spent the last 7 days laying on the floor, trying to be as comfortable as possible. I am supposed to find out tommorrow when I go in for cortisone treatments to relieve the pain so I can go back to work. Then, the big wait will be for when they can schedule me for surgery. ![]() I did manage to move my keyboard, mouse, and monitor to the floor today so I can at least surf the Net while I'm down. ![]() |

I gotta get this straight... First Charles is out, then Doc has an accident, now Slantzilla is flat on his back....I think someone's out to get us.... ![]() Please get better soon Dennis, I've not been out that bad, but I've had back injuries that 'floored' me for days and I sympathize.... I guess we'll be adding a few good words upstairs for you too.... ![]() Jeez.... -D.Idiot |

Thanks guys. Another day has come and gone and still no appointment for the cortisone shot. From the looks of things, I haven't got it as bad as others do though. ![]() |

Points were over and I finished tied for 7th. RT66 takes the top 6 out of my class, and as luck would have it, the guy who finished 5th didn't want to go, and the guy who finished 6th wasn't there. RT66 took both me and the guy I tied with as the #5&6 places. ![]() I got whacked in Rd1 at Indy when I tapped the brake at the stripe and let the other guy around by .0046. ![]() |

But at least the season is over, and you have plenty of time to get well. Good luck, and I hope you get fixed up soon. |

Post subject: | bad back |
I can relate, Dennis: I have a partially-prolapsed L-5 disc that I have to be really careful with. It's been a recurring injury for me ever since I first damaged it when I was a teenager, but got excruciatingly painful about 5 or 6 years ago when I was helping a buddy move his refrigerator. I could barely get into my car for about 6 months 'til it finally got better with lots of ice, bed rest and PT. Be really careful when you select a surgeon. I have a friend who works in the medical field who had to have back surgery. He'd heard alot of horror stories (there are good and bad surgeons, just like mechanics) so he used his "inside connections" to scope out who was best. Wound up getting worked on by the same guy who had done several of the SF 49ers, and was back on his feet and as close as possible to "100%" in a very short time. Pricey? Maybe...but this is certainly not something you want to cut costs on. When you get back on your feet, my advice is to do anything you can to keep your abs and upper back muscles in top shape. For me, that really seems to reduce the strain on my back of that any lifting I do creates. I have a pneumatic-tired hand truck that I use to move stuff like transmissions and rear ends around...stuff I used to muscle. A litttle hard on the pride at first, but better than getting laid up again. To those of you who've never have back trouble: take care of your back (lift with your legs, keeping your spine vertical, get help lifting heavy objects, etc.)! Us guys tend to be really stupid about playing macho games with this: "watch me pick THIS up, baby...no prpblem". Your back isn't designed to do that, and will give you truouble sooner or later if you don't use common sense (ask the older guys on this forum if you doubt it). Back injuries are EXTREMELY painful and tend to really dog you for long periods of time. Trust me: you want to avoid this. Best of luck Dennis, hang in there. --sixpuppy |
