Hi, I'm fixing up my 67 Barracuda notchback and the right side has some rust holes in the bottome of the quarterpanel. Is there anyone who makes a patch for that, or do I need to buy an entire quarterpanel? If so, who makes a good one? |

Welcome to the board. Year One ( www.yearone.com ) sells full rear quarters for your car. These are "non-concours" foreign reproductions. I think that lawsons http://www.laysons.com/ was planning to reproduce a patch that will be manufactured in the US but I don't know if it is available yet. You could also try something used from someplace like http://www.wildcatmopars.com Bob D |

Thanks, Bob. I was looking at all three of those. Just interested in opinions about quality. I've heard lots of good stuff about Year One ($216), but I haven't heard anything about quarterpanels from Laysons ($205). Wildcat doesn't have one. I don't think any of them sells a patch, but I asked them. --Dave |

You could do it the old fashioned way, make the panel yourself, especially if it's a small area. You can buy metal cheaply and then just shape it with an anvil and a hammer, do it right and it'll be as good as the panels you buy(specially if you buy Canadian, they make their panels by hand). Obviousely you'll need a little more bondo, but you need it either way and if you do it right you won't need much, the main fixing should be at the paint level where you just sand the primer until perfections are gone. I replace my panel for nother, I got free metal scrape from a metal shop, and then did the fabrication, welding, grinding, and bodywork done myself. There's an added bonus, if it looks good then you will have no greater satisfaction then saying that the panel is yours. One other thing, make sure to put paint on the back of the metal. Either way, just a suggestion if you want to do a little more work to save some money. |

I've been working with a local Auto Body shop in getting parts for a 1976 Dart Sport and they got a set of Duster rear quarter patches to fix the usual rust problem. For the $$$ spent on the Year One panels the body guy had to spend about 5 hours per side to get the body lines to match up...the agent there knows I'm a parts 'shagger' and asked if I knew where a junked non-rotted car was to save labor, even Wildcat couldn't provide one... -D.Idiot |
