A front sway bar helps these cars alot with minimum effort. I like the one from PST best for it's excellent mounting system. Put on new gas shocks from either Monroe, or Gabriel. Bigger tires will help sabilize it, and the rear springs are usually pretty ragged out, so you might want to replace those. If that is not enough, you can upgrade later to large bolt pattern suspension parts, which gives you bigger wheels, tires, and better brakes to chose from. That should keep you busy for awhile, and make a decided improvement in your cars handling and comfort.

I used to know the formula, but forget now. I think if you go from 70 to 60 profile, you can go 20 MM wider, and still have the same outside diameter tire. IE, if you have 185/75/14's you can go to 205/65/14's and not change you speedo. Or come real close. Any body out there know for sure if this is wrong?

OK let's say we have a kid with a slant six, 2.76:1 rear and auto tranny...

His speedo gear should be something like a Black 29...optioned for a P185/75R14 or 'D78-14' or P195/75R14....Then according to the speedo gear chart you can swap in these tires with no gear changes:

P205/70R14
P215/60R15

28 tooth blue gear would be good for: (with 2.76's)

P235/60R15
P225/60R15
P215/70R14
P205/75R14

Junkyard's love me, since I rob these out of every car and truck I can get my hand on too have either 'spares' or gears I don't have yet for future ratios...My last one was a Yellow one for a 3.21/3.23 rear ratio...

Hey DI,
Sounds like you have a speedo gear for me. I need one for my '87 truck that I changed from 3.21 to 3.55 ratio. Still using 235/75R15 tires. The trucks still use the spedo cable that is threaded onto the trans adaptor, not that silly clip-in cable they started using on the late 70s and up cars.

How do you get under all those vehicles to yank out the gears? What do you do with all the OIL that drains out?

Do you still need that specs for that 1975 distributor from several months ago?
