Post subject:  76 versus 73 Duster weights

For drag racing purposes (stripped interior, bumpers, glass, etc) The '76 Duster shouldn't be any heavier than the '73 Duster, right?

There are a couple '76 Duster bodies (no engine, tranny, suspension, etc) available locally for cheap that I am considering swapping over to. Now is a good time to switch over since the GodsRods Duster is so rough and is partially disassembled for engine and tranny rebuild and I want to swap rear ends and upgrade front brakes anyway.

Any concerns or drawbacks I should be aware of?

Thanks,
Rob

Post subject:  Similar....

The 1973 bumper shocks are different than the '76's, if I remember right (one year only rear bumper shocks), but the mountings are lighter...

A long long time ago I weighed out my stock '74 and with my 200 lbs in it it came out to 3555 lbs...(had spare, jack, 50 lbs of tools...), my Feather Duster weighs in about 100 lbs lighter with the same load...

'Shipping Weights' (Depending on how these were 'weighed', optioned, etc...)
Are:

Duster /6:
1970 2790lbs
1971 2825
1972 2780
1973 2830
1974 2975
1975 3115 'custom' =2970
1976 2975

Hope that helps some....

On most cars the '74's and up got the 5 MPH crash bumpers. The '73's were 2.5 MPH bumbers. Could be some extra weight in there someplace, you sure don't want it on the very front of your drag raceR.

The only major difference is the bumpers shocks and mounts. Other than that, the cars would be pretty much identical. My '76 weighed 3250 w/manual steering, 904, and an 8-3/4" rear. It should be considerably lighter when we are done.
