Hope some of you folks can give us some advice. My son and I just installed a Clifford intake, headers, and Weber 40 IDF (430 cfm) 2 bbl carb on his '63 Dart 170 ci Sl6. The engine is stock except for an Accel coil, new plug wires, and an electric fuel pump. We did recently give the engine a tuneup. After installation of the carb, we tuned the carb per instructions, checking to see that the air bypass valves were closed (one was open). The engine starts and idles fine, and runs fine at low throttle. As you progressively open the throttle, the engine loses power and dies unless you return to a low throttle or closed throttle position. It was doing this w/ the mechanical fuel pump before we put in the electricl one, so that is not the problem. Any ideas? Is this just too much carb for this engine? If so, would a hotter cam help this problem? Thanks for any responses.

Try a search on this site or on slantsix.com for "weber" or "idf". In the last couple of months someone installed one of these kits and it didn't work right - lots of discussion there.
