I got one of the pro-models a few days back. This thing is pretty slick. I made two 'runs' today, will do another couple on Sunday. I hit the save button wrong and didn't get to save the 16.58 sec. 1/4 mile pass out of my boss's parking lot with 4500 rpm power shifts.... The one that did save was a conservative 17.78 sec. pass just to get a graph to download on the computer via serial cable (about 2 secs for the program to grab it and put everything into 'readable form') and look at it. According to that 'conservative pass' (shifts at 4000 from 1-2, then a 3200 rpm shift from 2-3 and a 3000 rpm shift from 3-OD) According to this thing: Max torque was 164@2859 Max HP was 104@3682 60ft. 2.519 330 7.3 1/8 11.347@62mph 1000 14.8 1/4 17.786@76 mph 0-60 11.2 Rollout set to 12" with no 'reaction time' set into it for statistics. This thing is worth the $$. I have some carb changes to make (and a carb swap for comparison) and will make a couple more runs to see what changes there. I'll also get my '74 stock Duster Road Smoker out and make a run with it and see what numbers it comes up with... Nice to have some numbers to work with, without plunking $$$ for the runs at the drag strip. neat- -D.Idiot |

Those things are definitely worth the money. They real trick is finding a long enough section of road that is truly straight and flat. Not a problem in the midwest usually, but I had some trouble around LA and here in NC. Lou |

I am waiting to get a G-Tech that I recently ordered off ebay, killer $38.00 price with another $5 to ship it. This looks like a great way to get tuning info without the haul to the racetrack. It will be interesting to see how accurate it really is. DD |

I have so far talked to 3 other guys in my shop who go to the track pretty often, but use this model to 'tech and check' on a flat quiet country road near their houses. all of them said the 'box' is very 'close' to what their cars do at the track, they said in certain conditions (weather, human error, improper weight calibration) it can be off... I'm lucky to have some fairly nice flat sections of road near me, and a Weigh Station that's closed most of the time on the way to work (no guys there, but the scale is still on and working..drive up weigh in, go home). -D.Idiot I can post my saved runs as JPG's, but they are 114K in size so I'll save a couple to my webspace when I get the chance and provide a 'link' so you can see how the software looks for 'analysis'... |

Got to my nice 'level road', and got 3 runs off before I cut for home, just in time to see ossifer friendly 10 miles behind me heading for a lunch break in the small town near by..... I got my carb issues fairly sorted out, a little 'tweaking' left, but. It netted me some better numbers, and a hint that the HPak really does like things when the rpm range is above 3500 or more. With a lot of 4000-5000 rpm power shifting....I finally got: 212 HP @ 3800 326 ft/lbs of torque @ 3000 rpm my best run was: 60 ft 2.55 330 ft. 6.666 1/8th 9.841@81mph 1000 12.53 1/4 14.75@102.5 mph somewhere after 90 mph my 120 mph speedo didn't want to go that high.... I only consider these as something to work with when changing things on my mill, I'd only consider a pink slip from the track to be official...but it does hint at greater things to come. I'll bet with the proper reaction time this car is pretty close to a 15 sec. car. -D.Idiot |

Those HP/torque numbers are impressive, I'd want some dyno confirmation before I put too much trust in them though. 212 HP at the wheels ... thats more then double stock. |

The 'tech' takes calcs based on net horsepower with other things factored in. The dyno run would be tighter/more controlled, but does not take into consideration road/ tire friction, and wind resistance/tail wind which is evident at a track. I actually did a run in the other direction on the same spot of road for an average and it was a 15.1 sec run. But I'm just using it to see the 'effects' of jet changes, timing changes and carb swaps. I'd actually like to dial in my '74 1 barrel, then swap to the super six setup and re-check it, then swap a holley 2300 and see if it gets any better on a stock high miler.... I'll probably be going to the dyno when I get another 'vacation', so I have some time and concrete numbers. neat 'toy' though. -D.Idiot |

Good idea on the backup run in the other direction. I've done that too. That thing sounds very stout for what you have into it. What headwork have you done? For the MPH, it will read 3-6 MPH faster than at a dragstrip. I have tested this and it's true. They mention it in the manual, and it has to do with how the dragstrips measure MPH (average over some distance at the end). Lou |

| Post subject: | Not really stock, but not that hot either... |
I've got the numbers matching '600' casting BL head on it with 52.5 cc chambers. I gasket matched the port and took time to blend and relieve the edges, no polishing, just hogging things out and getting rid of and flash. When I ported I also made the ports slightly 'trapezoid' shaped wider at the top and narrower at the bottom by a thousandth of an inch. Stock valves, stock springs(but had them tested for 'uniformity'),short overlap cam, stock rockers. I notice if I do the run and just 'short shifting' like running it up to 3K then bump into the next gear my runs aren't so spectacular, but the mill really 'gets after it' after 3500...4500 doesn't feel any different than 5200 on the tach, but some where from 3500-4500 it seems to just pull like nuts, Doc might have an insight as to whether that's the ram tuning effect of the manifold. I'm not really running that 'hot' of a setup either, but I've improved my distributor timing curve, opened up the carb size, got that 'honker' Hpak now, and changed to a better coil, hotter plugs, and an orange box ECU.... Sunday I'll be making another run with a buddy of mine who's a 'drag addict'. I'll have to see what he thinks after that, with the little 390 he commented that my car 'felt more responsive and had more torque' than his 1991 S-10 4.3L blazer... his motto has always been 'make the most out of what little you have'..... The meter isn't fool proof. I did a run straight down a hill, and it clocked my slant in at 411HP and 632 ft./lbs of torque so watch that incline!!!!! -D.Idiot "Gotta go to the track...need practice on reaction time..need slip confirming WTF is under my hood...." |
