You need to check for an intermittent open, most likely in the wiring from your ECU to the distributor. Heat , vibration and time may have broken strands in the wiring...even if the insulation looks alright. |

Double-check all the electrical connections, is everything tight and clean? Be sure to look at the big ecu 5 pin plug, sometimes the pin sockets in the plug get flared open or corroded where they don't make good contact with the ecu pins. Also look inside the distributor and cap, is the air gap correct? Is there any mosture or carbon tracking in the distributor cap? DD |

Do NOT put WD40 inside your distributor cap - If you did get a new cap. I am not sure of all the chemistry and physics behind it. I assume the WD 40 is conductive and shorts out the cap. I do know the results - the car will not start. When I worked at a filling station as a teenager we thought we knew everything. We had heard that WD40 would "dry out" a distributor cap. After we sprayed it in the cap the car was worse - customer called AAA to get a tow and the driver recommended a new cap. We put on a new cap and the car started right up. We ate humble pie that day so what I learned stuck. So I use wd40 for fish bait, for lube, for rust protection - but I keep it far away from electric circuits. |
