Anyone on here use it on their slant? Not necessarily as part of an efi setup. |

A few of the racers have Electromotive's setup on their cars. Ron Hamby, 3 time points champoinship has it (carb) and the Drake's have it (efi), not sure who else. Lou |

I don't know why people want to keep distributors, but hey, they were not interested on the other thread. Pierre, have you heard of megajolt light JR? This uses the ford EDIS parts to build a really low cost ignition system? I have a bunch of front end work on my barracuda before I am ready to drive it, but one of the Megasquirt projects is going to be coming pretty soon. Pierre, I live east of LA in the mountain communities. If you are interested in giving this a shot, I would be interested in helping you. Greg |

I am interested in the distributorless ignition. How is it triggered? I would be interested in possibly setting up a system like that used on late model cars where each cylinder has its own coil, or there is a coil for every two cylinders. I also am considering EFI in the future so if it is compatible that would be a plus as well. Reed |

Ditto for me. On the electrmotive set ups, are they triggered off of the cam or crank? Is the hole for the distributor just blocked off? Dart68 |

Crank trigger. I will do this eventually. Maybe the MJ lite. Lou |

The Ford EDIS system appears to be a simple setup. A 36-1 toothed wheel is bolted to the dampener (there is a one tooth gap to help sync the computer). A sensor senses when a tooth passes underneth and sends a signal to the computer. The computer determines the number of degrees BTDC to fire the coil. The computer then sends a signal to the EDIS module which determines the dwell time when it fires the coil. There are at least 3 Megasquirt based projects that are using this setup. Ford made a setup for 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines. All of them, slightly differant. There is even a rumor that Ford created a multiple spark version. |

Yep I checked out the MJ Lite Jr. I wouldn't mind trying it once their V2 board comes out, seems that it will be cheap enough. I'm not sure how one would adapt a 36 tooth wheel to the slant crank though. Some custom work for sure. would it clear the fan if mounted closest to the radiator, or if closest to the timing cover you'd have to worry about the water pump and timing mark. Hmm good point brought up, no multiple spark. I wonder what that would do to engine performance. (I'm running a 6a box currently). MSD does have EDIS controllers... Greg, thanks for the offer of help but if I do go that route I have plenty of ability to do it myself. |

Added the magnets to the back of the damper pulley and mounted a pickup which feeds signal to ECU (see pic, scroll to bottom) http://www.projectplato.com/cars/crankdrive.html ECU signals to 3 GM coils (for pic 4.2 , scroll to bottom of page) http://www.projectplato.com/cars/efi.html |

Hi Pierre, I'm sorry, I wasn't suggesting that you couldn't whip up a MJ lite Jr. yourself. I am interested myself, and wanted to gain experience, and put together the "Best Practices" approach, maybe for documentation at their website. Sorry, Greg |

No prob Greg, all is well. It would be cool of the MJLJ was magnetically triggerd instead of optically. That way one could do, like Bob, just glue magnets on back of pulleys instead of messing with wheels. |

| Post subject: | MJL is magnetically triggered |
Thanks Pierre, Megajolt Lite is magnetically triggered, but uses a 36 tooth wheel. One tooth is missing, so it is really a 35 + 1 tooth wheel. I have heard of using homemade wheels, or 36 tooth bicycle sprockets, and filing one down. There are probably a dozen ways of doing this. Greg |

Ahh ok I thought that when wheels were used optical sensors were used. I would think gluing 35 magnets to the dampner might be a bit excessive. |

The wheel doesn't have to be magnetic, but I believe that it is ferrous. It uses an inductive signal (Hall effect??) to keep track of the crank angle. |
