Post subject:  Axle swap from 72 duster

Ive got the 7&1/4" rearend in my 69 dart, and it growls. My boss at work has a rusted 72 Duster fastback that Im already considering buying for parts. It has the Super 6 225 in it, a 904 I'm pretty sure, and power brakes. I havent peeked under the rear bumper yet to look at the cover, but do any of you know offhand what rear end it has, and if I'd have any trouble just swapping it out with my 7&1/4?

Also, is there any web page out there that has a fascia year identifier similar to the MOTOR manuals? The interior is gone and I cant find any ID tags left in it. Boss SAYS it's 72.

That Duster rear should swap right in, no problem. I have always found that even among seasoned automotive vets, they'll rebuild an angine, a tranny, a carb, but a rear end? Everyone seems to chuck 'em and change 'em. If it is like just a bad wheel bearing, it would be easier to fix your existing one. I would have to ride in your car to hear and tell, but don't be so fast to pull and change the whole thing, unless you get lucky and find a 8-3/4 in the Duster. Any time you can get a whole car for parts cheaply, DO IT! Often, 1 part will cost what you can get a complete car for. Save every thing that is good, even if you don't need it for your car today. You never know when you might, and nothing seems available in time of need. Also you get a ton of trade bait, or you can sell much of whats left before you scrap the rest and basically wind up getting what you need for free.
