I've asked this sort of question before, and now -embarassingly- I feel like I'm beating a dead horse. The deal is that I just got some nice new 14x7 American Racing Outlaw II's (4" Backspace) for christmas, and I need to know what the largest tire size is that I can put on them. I really don't want to have to do anything to my Stock '64 Dart to "make" something fit. Ideally I'd like to put 225 60/R14 BFGs all the way around...cause I think that would look super cool, but I wouldn't mind taller or wider (or smaller if I really must). Can anybody help me out? thanks, josh and yeah, I know embarassingly isn't a word. Sure, Shakespeare makes up a word and he's a genius, I do it and I'm a moron...story of my life. |

Are they stock 9" brakes (SBP)? If so, 225/60s will fit fine. If the car is really lowered in the rear, you may have some rubbing issues on turns. Poly bushings on the rear springs would cure that. With front discs, you may have a slight issue with front fender lip, but it can be bent trimmed very easily to clear. I ran those exact wheels/tires on my '64 Dart road course stomper and had no rubbing problems. Let the beatings continue...  Lou |

I dunno if you care about speedo accuracy, but if your tire circumference doesn't match stock your speedo and odometer will not read correctly, you'll have to replace the cable adaptor to one of a different ratio to overcome this. I'm actually scratching my head lately over the proper aspect ratio for radials on my 69 Abody with SBP 13" rims... it has 65s on it right now. Anyone know? |

The stock 13" rims on my dart have 185 80/r13's which are 24.7" tall. My new 14" rims with 225 60/r14's will also be 24.7" tall. ...which is why I was really shooting for that tire. This way I can use one of my old wheels as a spare and save some trunk space. ...that's the theory anyways... -josh |

Where did you get your wheels at Josh,Ive been trying to find those wheels with a 4 inch bolt pattern and all the places that Ive called say that they do not exist.Any info or phone numbers are much appreciated.THANKS. HyperValiant |

I got mine from Summit Racing. The aluminum alloy American Racing Outlaw II's come in 14x6 and 14x7 SBP. They're not listed in the catalog, but if you send them an email, or give 'em a call, they'll be happy to sell you some. And the price isn't too bad either. -josh |

I've got some sort of American Racing wheels on my '65 Dart. They sorta look like Centerline copies and are 14x7. I got them about 10 years ago from Les Schwab tire centers (WA). Anyway, a couple of points on them in my application; 1. I must use mag weights to ballance them because the edge weights will hit the upper control arm under certain turning conditions. So, I have only a static ballance. I have been told I could shave just a little off the very outer edge of the control arm to clear - not my style. 2. I run P205/70R14 tires and I have very slight marks just in the raised black letters from touching the rear fender lip on the left side of the car. This happens only when the vehicle is heavily loaded (like when I brought home 10 Optima batteries for another project 3. The speedo reads *very* accurate (less than 1mph off from 20mph to 70mph), but the tire is actually just slightly to tall (25.2") as the odometer is off about 2% (so 24.7 would be about right). Old speedos tend to start reading low. Paul |
