Post subject:  heater core and fan

Where can I get a replacement heater core, heater box, and fan, and perhaps the cables, switches, and other hardware. The previous owner for some reason felt the need to just get rid of all the afore mentioned parts. The fan is still in there, but doesnt work (well when it does it sounds like I turned on a grinder). I live in southern california near the beach, so hot air isnt super important, but defogging the windows is. there is so much condensation inside and outside of the car it is INSANE!!

here are my questions: where can I pick up these parts? I would prefer new, I am trying to restore the interior to as close to stock as possible (complete with AM radio). Any company names, articles I can Download, product info you could provide me with I would appreciate it.

Thank you very much.

If the fan motor is still in there, so is the heater box... infact to remove the motor I believe you have to take apart the heater box. The grinding sound your hearing is most likely leaves stuck in the heater box and hitting the squirrel cage (the actual "fan" thats attached to the fan motor).

So I'm not sure what your refering to as missing....

But to answer your question directly, cables and heaterbox are either found used at the junkyard/swapmeet/etc or at an NOS parts house. The assembly in the dash that houses the mechanical levers the cables attach to and the electric fan switch are also only availible 2nd hand or NOS maybe. The wiring... it is part of the underdash harness and I believe those are being reproduced for the A body. Try www.yearone.com . You can make your own cable if you want to using generic sheething and steel wire but without originals to pattern the length off of it can be a bit of a hassle. The heater core, motor and squirrel cage are availible at your local parts store.

Thanks for the info. I plan on taking a better look at everything during the x-mas days off I will have. i get 4 days off, so that should be plenty of time.
