Post subject:  Air box is out

I pulled the air box out of my 72' Swinger tonight for a heater core replacement. The info I got off this forum was right on, thanks. Two questions... It is missing about half the clips that hold the halves of the air box together, anyone know where I can get some? Also, I broke one of the metal tabs (cable support) at it's base where it is rivited to the fiberglass. I was trying to get one of those clips that hold a cable off and pressed a little too hard. There is a piece of the fiberglass still attached to the base/rivets, can this be repaired well enough to work or am I looking for a new air box?

Busboy....can't help you with the clips, but I suggest you clean off the area around that broken spot on the box with alcohol, let it air dry for awhile, and use a good, two-part epoxy to stick it back down. You might have to clamp it for 24 hours until the glue cures, though.

I suggest you not use that 5-minute stuff, though. It's got a rather short pot life. (Time from mixing to starting to harden) Get something like a 30-minute or longer stuff.

Thanks GTS, I actually went back to the scrap yard this morning and scored the clips I needed from a 73 /6 Duster. I also found another complete heater box assembly in another car that I will go back and get, just in case. In the mean time I will try a repair on mine and see how it works out.

The repair went well. I used 'kitty hair' fiberglass resin to patch my oops', replaced the heater core and put new foam on the heater door. I put new crack filler in the groove and clipped the halves back together. Should be back in the car in the next few days. Thanks to all for the info from this forum.
