Anyone have any traditional OR innovative methods for controlling trunk moisture? I have had this problem on almost any sedan Ive owned, and have thought about installing a vent fan, cutting ventilation holes in filler cap indentations, taillights etc, and even putting bags of silicagel in the tire wells. This last seems like the best idea. Petsmart sells huge jugs of Exquisicat PearlFresh cat litter that is exactly that, little 3/16" pellets of silicagel dessicant, clear hard little pellets that absorb moisture and can be thrown away when saturated. I figure 5 lbs of the stuff poured into a pillowcase would be sufficient to keep humidity in the trunk below the dewpoint and prevent moisture from accumulating in the trunk but I was wondering if any of you have come up with ideas for solving this age old problem. |

You sure this isn't just bad trunk weatherstripping? I've never had this problem, though that could be because I live in a much milder climate than you do. What year is your car? The narrow body (up to '66) A-bodies have no vent holes in the rear fender well drain plugs. The later A-bodies do. I always snag some at the boneyard and retro-fit, also seal any gaps in the trunk weather stripping. I also periodically check those plugs and make sure the seam / area below them is free of water and debris. Goes a long way towards keeping rust out of the rear quarters. ---Red |

Yeah, the whole car's mint. My concern is mostly with the dew collecting on the interior surface of the trunk lid, and on the bottom of the spare tire well. It's a '69, as pictured below. |
