OK, I am back home again. I am almost positive I have hydraulic lifters but will buy a tool this weekend and remove for examination. I am really suspecting that the engine block is newer than earlier believed. My problem is that I have searched several websites and cannot seem to find anything that matches the coding on my engine.

The ID boss (rear passenger side of engine just below head) says:
R13 762

The stamping on the front passenger side (below alternator) says:
1 225R 11 5 E

Under the manifold are two castings:
330-1 and 0850 with AAWJ just below it.

Can anyone please tell me what year engine I have based upon these numbers? Thank you very much, once I know the year for sure, I can get this problem solved.

Mike

From what you describe, you probably have the last generation forged crank motor. These have been described here as "30" blocks. I bought one out of a 76 Dart Lite. Nothing wrong with these blocks. I believe you'll find solid lifters. Limit your boring activities to 060" or less and you'll be in fine shape.

I suspect it is a '81 block. The 11 in the stamping is a date code from 1970. Pre 1970 is a letter code.

The E after the 225 in the one spot denotes a cast crank.

So you mean the "E" at the end, or an "E" where there is an "R" right now?

1 225R 11 5 E
