I frequent the Forward look web site and my post in members ride got a picture of Chrysler enginers diesel prototype on a slant! check it out in the 2nd half of the post.

One of the Mopar rags had an interview a couple years ago with one of the guys who ran the Chrysler dyno room. He talked some about the diesel Slant. IIRC, it suffered durability problems, as did the turbo Slant. :shock:

It is nice to see a pic of it though. :D

I have seen pictures of one of the Perkins Plymouth's they were talking about too. Someone had found one laying in a junkyard. :cry:

I believe seven main bearings were necessary, the
different head, made it a totally new motor, the costs
were lower to purchase a 3rd party diesel. In the late
'30s Chrysler developed a 331 diesel inline six based
upon a 331 gasoline seven bearing block. It was more
economical to purchase truck diesels from Cummins.

In the past couple of years several excellent diesels
have been developed in Europe that are light, quiet
and have adequate performance. But diesel fuel is
relatively expensive in the U.S., we might never see
these motors used in U.S. automobiles.
