Okay, I want update my 61 Valiant a little, and want to go to disc brakes and firm-feel power steering in front. I have access to a pair of 74 Dusters at my buddy's place, and I was wondering if its possible to swap K-frames between one of the Dusters and the Valiant?

I would like to swap the whole thing over, since the early Valiant steering boxes mount to the body instead of the K-frame, and parts are almost impossible to find for the early front ends.

Is it doable? I would gain front discs, a sway bar, and power steering. I would also probably use the Duster's rear axle while I have it apart. It's no problem for me to adapt the Valiant's steering column over to the Duster's box.

Thanks
Nick

P.S. Does anyone know how much track width I would gain in the front?? What is the stock track width of a 61 Valiant with 9" drums?

Interesting proposal, most likely any direct swap would have to be a 1960-1966 a type body, body style changed in 67 somewhat, good luck

The 61 valiant has the strut rods bolted underneath the LCAs (Lower
Control Arm) also the 61 engine mounts and brackets differ to all
the 63 and up A-bodys. If you do a kmember swap grab the LCAs,
the strut rods, the engine mounts/brackets, and the steering box
when you get the kmember.

As to parts from the 74 - The 74 disc setup with the 74 upper control
arms can be put on the 63-66 kmember setup. You get LBP (4.5" x 5)
lug pattern for your front wheels that way - only other issue is a
stock 63-66 sway bar interferes with the calipers on this setup.

I don't think the 74 kmember would fit the 61 - But that is just a guess
someone may know otherwise.

The '74 K-member will not work with any Abody before '67. The frame rails were spread in '67 to better accomodate V8s. It is my understanding, that a '63-'66 K-member can be used in the '61. At this point, all of the suspension parts from the '74 will bolt right up. But, you will need to use a centerlink and the pitman and idler arms from the '63-'66. A '65 V8 and all '66 centerlinks give an 1" additional clearance below the oilpan. This is needed if you use a late model \6 from an F-body.

I have a complete front suspension from a 65 Cuda. 10" brakes, factory swaybar, and all. Even has an aluminum manual steering gearbox attatched! Near Chicago. Anyone interested??
