Someone please help me understand this. I seen some gears for sale that said welded spiders? Then in the last issue on the SSRN (Thanks Seymour) I noticed that Gary Bruner's running welded gears. My question is, does this just turn the center into a "spool"? I have a 3.91 open rear that has a little gear noise that isn't good for anything else, and I may try this for a set-up in my race-car. I know it could'nt be used on the street. Any "strength" issue with this set -up? Anyone got a picture of where they welded? Rick |

Yes, welded spider gears work just like a spool , a full time "locked" rearend. Weld the gears everywhere you can, where the gears meet-up with the carrier and where the teeth intersect. As for durability, the 7 1/4 carrier is small and it will not take a bunch of load. I have split a 7 1/4 carrier in half, with-out welded spider gears. DD |

FWIW: No racing association allows welded spiders in competition. So if your racing, it would depend on the tracks tech inspection. |
