Post subject:  Installation of an MSD ignition

I bought an MSD and it says that to set it up to run a 6 cylinder I got to cut one of the wires under a cap. Fine, that's easy. The problem is this is for even fire engines. Is the Slant six an even fire engine? I thought it was odd but then again I don't really know what an even fire engine would be. I know many of you people have installed an MSD so how's it work?

Yes, slant six is even fire. Even fire = plugs fire at an even spacing apart from each other interms of crank rotation, or every 120 degrees of crank rotation for a 6 cylinder engine. An odd fire would be, for example, firing at 110 deg, then the next cylinder at 130 deg.

What msd box are you using? There are no wires to cut or anything to set on the 6a box I used, just hooked up the power feeds, distributor, coil and off I went.

I bet he's got the 6al because of the rev limiter you have to set it rfor the number of cylinders you have.I have the 6al on my truck.

Yeah, what he said :D, it's an MSD 6AL
That sort of brings me to the next question, for pretty much a stock slant what would be a good rev limit? I didn't think I needed it but when I'm shelling out that much money for an ignition I figured I might as well get the rev limiter.

Thanks a bunch for the info. on the even fire, I was slightly worried about that
