I have decided to swap a 318 4-barrel into my Uncle's 82 D-150 which currently has a 225 1-barrel. My question is, will the the Torqueflite 727(factory original) it has now bolt up to the 318 or do I need some special adapter to make it fit. The 318 is missing a flywheel so can I just pull one off of another 318 and stick it on, or do I have to get it balanced or something else. Also, will the torque convertor for the 225 work with the 318 or do I have to get a new one. Will the torque convertor have to be balanced too?

Yup. Most reman torque converter books I have seen list the same one from a 225 and a 318. Your flexplate will also bolt right on that 318, too. On the tranny, youd be better off to just find a trans that fits the 318 correctly, as putting any kind of adapter between the engine/trans would push the trans back, which would alter your rear trans mount location and possibly needing to have the driveshaft shortened. (More $$$ than just finding the right trans in the 1st place) Whether a 904 or a 727, trans mount location is the same, just a different slip yoke and driveshaft length between the two. Find a smallblock trans the same model as your current slant trans, easiest, cheapest, least headaches way to swap engines.

The slant 727 will have a different bellhousing bolt pattern, and will not mount up to the LA 318 (without an adapter). You would be better off finding a small block trans.
