I was wondering whether the backspacing on these rims were the same as SBP 14s and what size tires I should use to get the same tire circumference, so I don't have to change speedo adaptors. Anyone want to field this one? I'm running the 13s right now.

It's been a few years since I've had either of those wheels, but when I went from 13" steelies to 14x4.5 J wheels, I think they fit the same. My guess is that the backspacing is the same. And I think 195 70 14s should be about the same diameter as what you probably have on there now.

J wheels?

I was planning on grabbing some 5" wheels from National Moparts if they have them, but I thought Id have to use 65s or something. My 13s are pretty crazy looking.

14x4.5J wheels were 14x4.5" steel wheels that were used with the original Kelsey-Hayes disc brakes on Darts (small bolt discs). I sold my set a couple of years ago because they would not clear the Stainless Steel Brakes Kelsey-Hayes copy calipers.

I originally bought those steel wheels from a guy in Texas, then I sold them to somebody in California. Shipping was a killer! Just goes to show how rare those wheels are that somebody would want them shipped across the country. It's also funny how cars and parts travel so many miles from where they originated.

Tire size: If you have 185 80 13s on there now, that gives you about a 25.4" diameter. You can use 195 70 14s or maybe 225 60 14s. The width you choose depends a lot on the width of the rim. I wouldn't put 225s on a 4.5" rim, but on a 6" rim it is probably OK. Know what I mean?

USE THIS FORMULA( TIRE WIDTH X TIRE RATIO X 2)DIVIDED BY 25.4 ADD THIS TO THE RIM DIAMETER YOU HAVE(13,14,15,ETC) . THIS GIVES YOU TIRE HEIGHT.
NOW, AS LONG AS YOUR HEIGHT IS ALMOST THE SAME YOUR SPEEDO SHOULD BE FINE.
EXAMPLE 195/75/14 TIRE = 195 X.75 X 2=292.50 DIVIDE THAT BY 25.4(METRIC CONVERSION) = 11.52 (THIS IS THE HEIGHT OF YOUR SIDEWALL) + ADD THE RIM DIAMETER 14 = 25.52 IS THE TIRE HEIGHT OF THIS WHEEL.
NOW MATCH UP ALL TIRE SIZES THAT ARE CLOSE & SEE IF THEY FIT YOUR APPLICATION. (ONLY GOOD FOR THE METRIC RATED TIRES SOLD TODAY )
I HAD 235/60/14 UNDER MY 62 VALIANT WITH NO PROBLEMS. ENJOY!!!!!

Lou, you should see the setup I'm building now. Porsche 993 twin turbo calipers and rotors going onto an A body. 13x1.250 rotors with the famous Big Red calipers. Very wicked looking and it fits under a set of Mustang Bullit rims.

Sounds like you need to call "brakeaholics anonymous". I've already been batting ideas around in my head about making an even lighter disc setup for one of my cars.

Lou, you can take 3 or 4 lbs off your setup by just switching to an aftermarket Cobra rotor. Baer has some two piece ones that are a bolt on affair.

Next step would be to make a one-piece caliper adapter and then spend some time on the finite element analysis tool to lighten it up.

Between those two trick you could take 5 or 6 lbs off each corner. It would cost some bucks though. Probably another $500 per side.

I had already looked at the Baer rotors and those might find their way onto the car. The max I could see saving off those 1.5 lb caliper brackets are 0.5-0.7 lbs or so, so that's tough to justify. Other ideas are brewing...

Some custom made Fikse rims will lighten up the corners. With the correct offset you could get rid of the spacers which will save some weight. Also, you could then cut down the ARP studs which will save even more weight. 17x8 Fikse rims will be about 17 lbs. Mustang rims are around 22 lbs.

I just scored a used front hub for my 9" drum setup, wait till I replace the cracked front shoes. Woo.

But anyways, I found a set of four 340 rims (14x5.5", 5x4 SBP) for $300 CDN, I figure itll look nice with stainless dogdish centre caps and 205/65s in front, 215/65s in the back. Sound like a deal? I was hoping to find some 5" wides for cheaper, but he said they don't exist.
