Will a pod off of a points distributor fit a magnetic pickup distributor and viceversa? I have one of each infront of me, all is the same except for the arm that extends into the distributor.

The problem is, they are different degree ratings (one a 6.5 off of points distributor, and the other a 8.5 off of magnetic pickup) so I don't know if the arms are different because of the ratings or because of them coming from different style distributors.

This swap works "one way only": The vacuum pod from the points dizzy will usually fit the electronic dizzy, because most of the electronic dizzies have *two* holes in the pickup plate, one for early style and one for late style pod arms.

Thanks Dan.

I removed the heavy spring and installed another light one from a spare distributor, and installed a 6.5 (13 crank degrees) points pod on my EI distributor. Still using the original (15) slot plate. Running about 12-13deg inital.

The car pulls a better from a stop now, nothing huge but is noticable. Before I had a parts store distributor, asked for one from a 73 duster.

I need to do something about the distributor in my '62. It's got an MP dizzy in there now, and that is just NOT the ticket for street-driven use. The mechanical advance comes in way too soon...ping city! I've got another distributor (new '73 item) to install, that should be a better starting point.
