Hi here is the deal i am showing 12 volts on the battery when running should be 14... i changed the voltage regulator and switched back to older alternator still doing the same thing disconnect battery when runnin and wont run. it is running off the battery.hmmmm (the first sign i had was the gauge on the dash was low left and when i put on the brake the radio would cut out and then go back on....now i have no brake lights and lights in the rear. the front lights are ok)......is there a short? or what would be the first step? Thanks Alex in Illinois :?

What you've described sounds familiar, mine did much the same thing last winter but it still ran when the battery was disconnected.

First of all, are you still running the ammeter? If so, bypass that hunk o' junk! It was fine in the 1920s when it was designed, but not up to modern standards. I can't remember where but there a website devoted to redoing the underhood wiring of Mopars to make them charge like lightning.

What I'd check first are your terminals. Are they green and corroded? Secondly, are your wires frayed or exposed from bad insulation? Mine were. And is your engine grounded to the chassis properly?

Check these out and you might find you don't need to buy anything else.
