Post subject:  Intermittent stalling. Need HELP.
I was wondering if anyone out there has any idea what could be wrong with my Duster.

I have a 73 Duster with a 225 slant six with a Holley 1920. I replaced the electronic ignition module because the original was basically melting down. I have a new battery. I’ve changed the spark plugs, the wires, as well as the distributor cap and rotor. I even replaced all of the vacuum lines. I had to replace the carb. because it crapped out. I went through a couple parts store but kept returning the carb. because they were defective. The one I have now I got from Holley (Reman). I haven’t had problems with this one. I replaced the fuel pump as well. It idles fine and runs great except it stalls every now and then. It’s almost like a sag in the power. It seems to do this a lot more after it is warmed up. It just loses power and stalls. However, it seems that sometimes it wants to stall, but then the power returns.

It almost seems like an electrical problem. But I’m not sure. If anyone has an idea, a thought, or knows what this could be, PLEASE let me know. Email me at ksiegel3@tampabay.rr.com

Check the firewall connections, and your fusible link. You could also have a bad coil that is just starting to go. My Sunbird had a coil that did that.

What exactly is the fusible link?

See if your timing is wandering at idle. If it is, either the timing chain is worn, or the distributor shaft is worn. Erratic timing could couse the problems you describe.

The fusible link is a short section of special wire at the firewall connector that is designed to slowly melt in case of a direct short. It has a little rubber tag that identifies it. Do a search on fusible link; we had a discussion on them not too long ago here.
