| Post subject: | Ball and Trunion to Spicer U-joint conversion questions |
I am planning on replacing the ball and trunion driveshaft in my '63 Dart GT when the 8 3/4 rearend goes in. I read this article - http://www.earlycuda.org/tech/ujoint.htm . They call for a spicer 5-153x u-joint which I believe is also called a 1310 u-joint. So naturally the flange and slip yoke are 1310 size. I'm assuming that they are using a 7260 u-joint on the rear. I was hoping to use a driveshaft out of a Dodge 4x4 truck (with slipyoke/spline), which has the normal 7260 (5-1306x) u-joints. Does anyone know if spicer has a flange that fits the output on the tranny that uses a 7260 u-joint? I don't want to buy a new slip yoke and spline if I can avoid it. Any thoughts? Thanks, Mark 63 Dodge Dart GT, Hardtop Pushbutton 904 Super 225, 2 bbl 8 3/4 rear(coming), 2.94 open gear primer black, old school pin stripes Red bucket seat interior |

Mark, I don't know if this will help or answer your questions, but I had the driveline converted on a '63 Valiant. I took the drive shaft with the old ball and trunion and the flange to a driveline shop in Pasco (Six States) where they changed the B&T to the typical roller cross . I had to measure from the flange face on the back of the transmission to the center of the yoke on the differential and provide them that distance. The drive shaft came with the flange to mate to the transmission and the spline section and the new front roller cross U-joint. All for about $200 and they balanced the drive shaft. I don't remember the type of new U-joint, but it is available in most auto parts stores. I might be able to find the number if you need more. Good luck. Carl Zeamer RMDV |
