Post subject:  Bleeder Valve headache

I went to bleed the brakes on my brother's truck yesterday and found that the bleeder valve is not only rust-welded on, but also stripped so badly that I can't fit a wrench on it. I need it fixed today if possible. Anyone have any ideas?

thanks,
josh

Vicegrips or pipewrench to grab it if a flare end wrench won't. Try some sort of penetrating oil to soak it, PB Blaster works well.

Push comes to shove you can swap out the cylinder. $10 at kragen for a new one. Chances are the brake line nut is still fine so that shouldn't be a huge hassle. Just make sure you use a flare end wrench because those fittings are soft and will strip easily as well.

Not to mention the lines may be seized to the line nut and may twist right off without some wiggling. Be prepared to replace the line if it gets broken. :(

So far, copius amounts of PB Blaster and a pair of vice grips have finally allowed me to remove the driver's sice bleeder screw (and I replaced it with a nice shiney new one). I ran out of daylight, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow for the Pass side.

thanks for the help.

A small question about bleeder screws : does anyone know the thread on the disc brakes caliper ('67 dart) of the bleeder screws?
I've read somewhere 3/8" X 24.
I'd like to order some from speedbleeders but not sure about the thread...
Thanks for your help
