Post subject:  transmission crossmember bolt size?

Have a 68 Barracuda project car. No trans. Cossmember is in the
trunk. Can someone tell me the size of the bolts (4 of them I think)
that I need to attach it (head size, length and fine or course threads?)

1/2" coarse thread, and around 3.5-4.5" long. 4" should do it fine.

It sounds like he's asking about the ones that hold the X member to the body. Those have always been 3/8" coarse thread (you could use coarse or fine as long as your nuts and bolts that you buy match)From the factory, they had a 9/16" wrench head. I have worked on many many Mopars over the years, and it dont seem to matter what body style it is I always remember needing a 9/16 wrench on those. Now the one that holds the trans mount to the X member, a 1/2" bolt sounds about right. (typically a 3/4" wrench head). The ones that hold the mount to the trans are a 7/16" coarse and about 1"-1-1/4" long. Now these have to be coarse as the threads in the tail shaft are already there, and that one you GOTTA match!

Hmmm. All A-bodies I've ever worked on (mostly pre-73) use 4 1/2" diameter coarse thread bolts (3/4" wrench) to hold the trans X-member to the body X member. These bolts run parallel to the axis of the car. The ones on the mount itself are 7/16" into the trans, as Don said.
