| Post subject: | Thick Torsion Bars or Sway Bar? |
70 Dart Swinger. I replaced my shocks, ball joints, and tie rod ends this weekend. After bringing my car to get aligned I was told that my control arm bushings were bad enough that they could not set camber on my tires. Irritating to say the least. So I ordered a poly boshing set from PST (Including Strut Rod Bushings). While I am under the car removing my control arms, I am going to have to loosen/remove T-Bars. I was going to buy a sway bar for my next frivolous purchase, but maybe I should upgrade to larger T-Bar? What do you all recomend? What would be a better upgrade? They are nearly identical in price. If I get T-Bars should I get .870 or .890? Thanks in advance, Tim Smith |

IMO, If you can only afford one or the other,I would go with the sway bar and if you feel you need more you can upgrade later to larger t-bars. The roads around here are washboard rough and larger t-bars have actually hampered the handling on my cars in the past,so for my current build I am using the stock t-bars with larger sway bars and KYB shocks in hopes that the softer t-bars and quality shocks will keep my car from bouncing off the road while the sway bars will prevent body roll when driving "spiritadely" through the twisties. I hope this helps. HyperValiant |

Personally, if you're into the front end, and you have the $130-140 extra for new T-bars, I would upgrade to 0.890s for a driver - no extra labor. It will not ride any harder than any newer car, but will improve handling. You should ALSO probably have a sway bar, and if I had the choice between the two, I would probably just get a sway bar. Sway bars, are you limited to a stock replacement or can you get better sway bars from other cars or is their another option? |

If you don't have the factory brackets on the lower CA's, I'd go with larger T-bars. Like somebody else said, no extra work. I don't remember the dia's, but 340 T-bars ride good and handle well. I've got '76 police bars in my Cuda, they're a little overkill, but I like them. You can always add the sway bar later. |

I'd check some junkyards out...maybe someone in your are has a set lying against the wall, any 1973-1976 A-body will have the .850 (890/891) set under them..if they were equipped with 318 A/C or 340/360 then you get eh .870 bars (892/893)...possibly you can grab a stiffer used set for $50(+/-) then add an after market sway bar too... -D.Idiot |
