Just picked up my newest race car project from Gary Bruner this past weekend. He got the car between 10-12 years ago(he couldn't remember) with a 360/Auto tranny installed, with the plan of swapping in a Slant engine. Well, as projects go, and he has a ton of them im here to tell you, it got pushed behind his shop where it sat and sat. After attending the Slant Reunion and Banquet a few months ago, I started getting the urge to look for another project while my other "race car" was in a holding pattern awaiting some upgrades. After talking to several members on the board, I got a lead that Gary had quite a few he might be willing to part with. Well, after several weeks of calls and pics, we made a deal and I drug it home this past Saturday after he pulled out the V8 and tranny. So, the first order of business is to put it on a strict diet and do the usual misc. removal of all uneeded items and replace them with a lightweight equivalent or delete them altogether. So, as I make progress, I will start posting pics of the build and hope to make a race or two before this year is up.

I like it.

I suggest leaving the patina "as is" haha.

I hope to see it in person sometime.

It was funny when we were there to pick up the car, Gary had to air that tire up about 4 times before we loaded it on the trailer. Meril, his uncle was standing by with his hands on the car to help roll it close to the trailer and finally told Gary "Will you quit talking so we can load this car before the tire goes flat again". He was kidding, but it did seem like we had to air it up every time we turned around. Im looking forward to getting started on it.

Yeah, we really enjoyed the visit. Got to see the "Half Hemi" race car and Gary's race car and a few others they had there.

Finally got a chance to start cleaning out the interior and removing all the unecessary stuff like carpet and misc. stuff that was laying loose, and its a pretty good southern car. Frame rails are perfect front and rear with no rust and floors are near perfect with only two spots about the size of a tennis ball in each side of the front floor pan near where your feet would be. And trunk is good also.

I plan to start gutting it soon and putting it on a rotiserrie to sand blast all the underside. Next, i'll fab some frame connectors and put a gear in the rear with a spool along with updating the suspension front and rear. Haven't decided what i'll do about brakes yet, i'd like to put discs on the front at least, I just don't like going over a 100 with 4 wheel drum. I wont need a cage until it goes 7.49 or faster, so i'll worry about that when the time comes. I might rob the fuel cell out of my other race car since its going to be grazing for a while and just start taking out all the weight I can. Im also going to start making templates to cut all my Lexanâ„¢ windows out of. I've got headers to start building and a front motor plate to get laser cut and fit, so a lot is going on in just a short time.

The car had a 360 in it when I got it from Gary, so I was hoping to have had a engine and tranny before now to start fabbing up some headers and other goodies like the motor plate from the template you sent me, just couldn't hook up with Charlie any sooner than this coming weekend at Knoxville. So while i've been waiting for this weekend for sometime now, my wife and I have been trying to lease two of our rental houses, sell another one and just purchased another for rental. So been busy trying to get that stuff out of the way, so I can get my new shop ready to build with the funds from the one house we are selling. I have been making patterns for my windows to make out of Lexanâ„¢, and am going to be making the frame connectors soon as well. I'll see ya'll at Knoxville on Saturday, I guess everyone will be gathering at Gary and Meril's place before heading to the track, so if I get there early enough I might swing on by.
