Post subject:  7 1/4 sure grip

About a week and a half ago, I came across a sure grip unit for 7 1/4 rear on ebay. I didn't get to bid on it quick enough and it went for (I think) 75 bucks or so (or maybe that was the starting bid) anyways, it went pretty cheap. Are these pretty rare units? What kind of cars to look for having them? Also, I want to run 3.90's or 4.10's in my demon. Will the stock carrier accept those gears? Thanks!

Yep, pretty rare...you'll be looking under a lot of 60's A-bodies (like 1st gen. Barracudas), I hear they were used up to the early 70's....

The last time I talked to the guys at Wildcat Auto in OR, they wanted $100 for a rebuildable 7.25" sure-Grip unit, minus ring gear.

so these are really hard to find, huh. i was thinking of trying to find one for mine. not worth it to me to put a 8 3/4 in and i dont want an 8 1/4 because of the c-clips (i made this car into a handler and i'd hate to see an axle pass me), so i figure the 7 1/4 is the way to go----if i can find a suregrip thats usuable and reasonable.

They turn up every so often. keep watching e-bay, and posting on Mopar web site parts wanted sections. I found two of them, that way.
