Went from a 2.76 to a 3.23. I haven't driven car in a month or so while I did the upgrade, and now when I drive it I'm a tad disappointed. I thought I was supposed to gain more of a seat of the pants feeling but I don't think I did. Perhaps I just didn't notice because I haven't driven the car in so long. Was I expecting too much from this gear change?

I changed springs/shocks at the same time, which gave it a more glued to the road less bumpy sort of feeling, which is one plus of the upgrade at least.

It depends on some 'other things' too... Part of it, is you didn't drive it for a while/ didn't 'benchmark' how long it takes to get out of 1st gear/ how quick does it clear a stoplight. Other things to be considered are: what are the gear ratios in your tranny? Luckily I have a 3.09 1st gear in both my manuals and I can definately tell the difference between the 2.76 rear gears and the 3.55's... if you have an auto it may be slightly diminished.
Secondly, now that you have a 'quicker' rear ratio it shouldn't grunt so hard off the line, have you tryed to dial in some more initial advance to see if that gives back some more 'pep', i also forgot if you're still in the 1 barrel crowd, or if you've stepped up to more 'carb'...

I can tell you that with my '74 when I had 3.21's I was out of 1st gear by 15 mph, out of second by 35, and third 'whined' at 65 mph....(sorry no tach in that car, but the service manual always tells you what 'MPH' to shift at...)...with the 2.76's in it currently...I shift out of 1st by 25 mph, am out of second about 50 mph, and it still hasn't 'whined' at 75 mph/ it kinda lugs along at 65...

I have a stock 904, which means 2.45/1.45/1 gears if I recall correctly.

I am in the 2 barrel crowd, but its a GM TBI 2 barrel (used on their 4.3L engines). The calibration isn't anywhere near perfect, on the rich side I believe. I intend to put a megasquirt in there soon enough, but its going to be a while.

I'll have to see where I left the inital advance at. I think its about 10 or 12. Perhaps I'll try 15. I have a 73 electronic ignition distributor which I modified by removing the heavy spring and putting in another light spring from a spare distributor, and changed the vaccum advance pod to a 6.5 unit (The stock was an 8.5, but I thought I'd go to a 6.5 because the lighter spring...)
