How much of an increase in performance would replacing my stock electronic ignition box with the MP orange box bring about? Everything else is stock.

hi, your stock box will rev to about 5,ooo r.p.m. <probably as high as you should go with a stone stock slant> the orange box should rev to 6,ooo r.p.m. or until your connecting rods come out of your engine. unless you need lots of high r.p.m. you might not see any difference from your stock box to the orange one. ron

I'll second what Ron said, and add that I have read on other message boards that they don't last as long as they used to. That said, I had one one my late '70 Fury (bought in the early '90's) for over 8 years with no problems.

On a stock Slant you will be very lucky if it doesn't slow you down. I tried various boxes at the track on my Duster. A standard Borg Warner worked better than any of the MP ones.

I just swapped one in last year, and luckily it was one that I pulled off a Cordoba wiring harness back in '94...hasn't died on me yet and I've run my mill up to 5500...on the street I notice no difference between it and the black box I just pulled out of there...

My orange box abruptly died after about 1200 (gently driven) miles; I tried to take it apart to see why. Due to the potting, the only part that came out in one piece was the main power transistor. It tested OK, suggesting that I hadn't overloaded it by using an Accel coil + stock type (1ohm MP) ballast. At Mopar shows, I asked a number of orange box users - most had no problems, one had gone through 4 of them... I now run a top-of-the-line chrome NAPA module and can see no difference, but I never go past 4000rpm.
A few people told me they upgraded to the MP chrome box and that their cars ran noticably better, even at lower RPMs.
