They where used on the Cortez moterhomes because a stock carb would be to tall to fit under the dog house. They where front wheel drive as well, an unusual feature for the time they where made. I know of one at a local trailer park, looks like it hasn't moved in years. Wonder if I could get one to work on my car...:mrgreen:

I have one of these in my garage I pulled off a Cortez in a junkyard last year. I thought it might look cool on something someday. I see no reason it would not work. The carb is the same one that was used on the early 6 cyl Corvettes in the 50's and also on Turbo Corvairs. I hope that means you could get some sort of reasonable performance from it.

Man that looks so cool. How big were these motorhomes? I have never seen a motorhome with a slant. Guess you learn something everyday.

Post subject:  Cortez Motorhome
I own a Cortez. It is an awesome motorhome. These were made by the Clark Equipment Co from 64-69. Very advanced for their day. They originaly sold for $12-16k back then, which was about the same as a house. The early units were made with a chrysler industrial slant six (used in forklifts and tractors), and a 4 speed manual front wheel drive trans.

The Original carb is a Carter YH sidedraft 1 Bbl, not much power. I'm planning to convert mine to fuel injection with a megasquirt. I'm hoping to buy the ebay manifold to build on so mine can stay intact during construction.

OK, John.......I was thinkin' about bidding on that intake, too. I really don't need it badly, but had tha same idea that you have in mind. You, on the other hand, can make better use of it than I, so I see no reason to have our own little "bidding war". I'll stay out of it........this time. 8)

Thanks for the consideration, Roger. I still lost the auction, anyway. I was also considering a mod on an aluminum intake. I'll post here when I have a good solution.

Sounds like it'd work for efficiently packaging a draw-through Turbo setup...Hmmmmmmm.
