After my Duster flooded real bad the other day, I noticed that my oil has a really strong, gassy, smell. Is there gas in my oil? I have never seen this before.

hello jeb- have seen this before in sl6s and 318s but it is uncommon. a damaged cracked or loose body carb could cause this, but themore likely cause is a leak in the diaphram of the fuel pump. when the arm flexes for a pump shot on the cam eccentric, gas can dump into the oil pan. how old is the fuel pump?

Change your oil right away, dude - and hope that's all it was. Keep an eye on things to make sure your fuel pump's not leaking gas into the crankcase. If it is, replace the pump.

I have heard that when it gets hot, the gas will evaporate out. I know it is not the fuel pump because it was replaced last month and the carb is brand new.

Normal if you flooded bad. Change your oil right now.

Better safe than sorry, change the oil, but I wouldn't lie awake at night over it.

A few good wiffs of gasoline or some on your hands/shoes/clothes, and EVERYTHING will smell like gas for hours.

A few more wiffs and you'll see pretty colors
OOooops, those are ambulance lights :(

Sometimes "new" pumps are junk from the factory, just keep an eye on it in case.

I had that happen with 3 different new fuel pumps. I never could figure out why the diaphrams kept rupturing. I eventually installed a Holley electric fuel pump and have been having no problems since.
