Post subject:  Choke Blade
Here I go again with another one of my crazy performance ideas. Since the choke blade on my car is held on with only two screws, will removing it help my little Holley build some more power? If so, is it enough to give the ease of cold starting? Exactly how hard will it be to make my car start if it has no choke?

Unless you live in a real mild climate, I would urge you not to do it. I live in Washington St. and my slants act like pigs on start unless the temp is near 80. Im willing to bet if its below 45 or so I bet it will be near impossiable to start.

what if, lets say, you live in los angeles, ca? At night the temp doesn't even get anywhere near 45. LOL!

okay, down here in Georgia during the summer it rarely drops below 70. If I want a little extra power and it is about 90 degrees outside, will removing the choke blade give me any extra power?

I don't think it will add any power. Removing it will help smooth the air flow though. I removed mine last summer and didn't notice any difference. I run an open element air cleaner in the warm months, so maybe the addition of that helps more or as much as removing the choke plate.

You may gain HP, but I doubt you will notice the increase. But I think every little bit can help. If your going to the trouble to remove the choke valve, I would remove the choke shaft and put in some plugs for the holes, if you haven't planned to already.

FYI, I do like your "outside the box" performance thinking... :P

Just wondering; What if you remove that blade and retune the carb? Will you notice something then?
