My Dart's powerplant casting numbers indicate that the engine is from a 1966 casting group. The engine is getting pulled out and replaced with another slant 6. My question to the gang is this, is the 66 era block worth rebuilding over say a 72 or 73 block?

I looked in the forum and in the various articles here and on some other sites, and I don't see much difference between them until later. Is the later "thin" casting really inferior?

Any information greatly appreciated. Additionally if this is a rehash then please point me to the correct forum topic.

I don't know about the block, but it's better to get a newer head. I think it's '68 and up for the "better" design. Also if you change your engine, you may have to make some changes to keep the same tranny 'cause pre 68(i think) had different crank journals.

So my current 904 can't be used with a post 68 block without modification? What changes are nessessary to keep my tranny? The trans was recently rebuilt and I don't want to waste the money spent on that rebuild.

I am now very curious about the year / block / transmission thing! I am looking at a timeframe of less than a month before I do the swap, and I won't have access to the shop for more than 7 days. If I have to change something to get my 904 to work with a newer /6 block then I'd LOVE to know what it is?! Sorry for sounding so stressed, but I'm new to the /6 world.

PS: My last post was listed as GUEST, don't know why It refused to log me in correctly.
