I originally had this brought up in another post about my block generation. I have a 1966 /225 + 904. The current / is coming out and the one I am considering replacing it with is newer (1974). Someone brought up that because the Crank Journals changed in '68 that I'd have to change something to get it to mate to my 904? Flexplate?... In any case I may have misunderstood, but I thought I'd throw it out again. As Always, any information greatly appreciated.

The crank journals did not change between 1967 and 1968, it was the flange on the rear of the crank. You will need to use the 1968 and newer flexplate. Also will need to get a reducer bushing to go in the end of the crank, if you are going to use the early converter/trans. The bushing is available from Ed Yost at Wildcat Wreckers, and someone else has them on E-Bay

Thanks!

I was wondering how a journal size would affect that. I understand the flange issue now. Wildcat is just 8 miles from my place, so I'll prolly go there first.

PS: anybody want to enlighten me, what was the year that the journals DID change?

1976. Crank was changed to cast. Block, rods, and crank are different, and not interchangable.

Depending on how much Ed might cost ya, it might be cheaper to get a custom torque convertor to match the crank pocket for the new engine, but match the splines/shaft of your current tranny... I know a few people here have gone that route...

The adapter bushing is much cheaper than a custom converter.
To put a late trans up to an early engine, a custom converter is required.
