About 3 or 4 months ago I got my 225 back from machining but I wasn't ready to build her yet so my machinist said soak it down with WD40 and put a platic sack over it and seal it up. Well I removed the bag and noticed something I didn't see befor. The bore on the cylinders is not quit complete. I mean I see a vertical rough spot where he didn't get the bore all the way around and it's on all the cylinders. Argh. I should have looked closer when I got it back. Should I be concerned? I can't really feel the roughness very much which is wierd. It just looks strange.

Another question while I'm here. All the cam bearings are pressed in and the crank journals are machined, but, before I install the crank bearings should I do anything to the surfaces? They don't look as fresh as when I first go it back. They appears a little darker and slightly rougher. Now the WD40 has been on there a while so before I do the build I will completely wash her down with soapy water.

BTW I have all new pistons, crankshaft, camshaft etc, etc per the machinists recommendations. He basically kitted it up for me. Since the car was in paint I waited to build the motor.

Be sure that you are not looking at some dirt or stains left on the cylinder walls.
You need smooth, round bores to get a good ring seal, good ring seal makes power so get this issue resolved.
You may want to take the block to a different shop and have them measure all the key dimensions. Also "trial fit" the cam to be sure it spins freely and look at the rear cam bearing to be sure the oil holes are lined-up to the block's passageways.

I called my machinist to ask him if he remembered anything about this job. He said it was likely stains from the WD40. He told me to take some soapy water and a scotchbrite pad and see if it would come off. I tried that and it did. Looks like stains from the WD40 mixing with residue on the block. Also it's in 4 of the cylinders not all of them like I thought. Not that it makes any difference. He told me to use solvent and clean the whole block before assembly. I'm still acouple months before I'm ready for that. I gave it another dose of WD40 and put the bag back on.
