I messed with one of those about 6 years ago.
I think your best bet is to remove the complete pedal assembly from the car. Remove the instrument cluster so you can see and reach what you are doing. You will have to unbolt the master brake cylinder (no need to disconnect the brake lines), and the bolts and nuts that hold the pedal bracket to the dash and where ever else you find them. then you can work the whole pedal assembly out of there. It's a snug fit but once you figure out the correct way to wiggle it and move it around, it comes right out. I swapped the pedal assembly on a 1975 Valiant when changing from an auto trans to manual trans, and I did it again when I put the auto trans back in.
Once you have the pedal assembly out, I forget what you do next.
I think you remove some retainer on the pedal pivot shaft, then slide the pedal and shaft to the left a little bit and then the clutch pedal will miss the limit stops and swing far enough to remove all the tension on the spring.Hey! You got it! Good for you!
