Think I've hear this one enough to know.

*A-body disc brake UCA(73-up)
*73 up lower ball joint
*Either A-body knuckle arm or knuckles off stuff like Corboda's and Volares(they will be slightly different in design, but I haven't noticed any ill effects from using them)
*sliding caliper from 73 up vehickle(buy remanufactured to be safe)
*73 up rotor
*disc brake hoses(buy new)
*backing plate
*and most likely someone will post site with in-depth info
*you could also use the lower quality disc brake setup off older Dart
*will need disc brake MC
*will need proportioning valve
*good time to get large torsion bars

Swap can be done for as little as $200 to as much as 500-600(most parts upgraded, new, or remanufactured). Don't forget the cost of alignment and tire switching ($100+)

I suggest a search for this topic on this forum as this swap has been talked about lots and you can find useful links to show you what to do. Don't forget that there are lots of upgraded brake systems for old Darts that use stock ball joints for around $800, and most of them have quite a bit of sex appeal.

wait, don't think UCA needs to be off a disc brake vehickle

Post subject:  don't forget the wheels...

It was alluded to in the previous post, but if you run the disc brake setup you'll need 14" rims for the standard rotors, and 15" if you use the rotor setup out of a 1975-1978 B-body (Sport Fury, etc...). Also the 1973+ disc brakes are 'large bolt pattern' or 5 lugs with a 4.5" lug circle diameter... currently you should have 5 on 4" or 'small bolt pattern'... if you swap, you'll have to carry two spares, or swap out your rear axle for one from a later A-body with the LBP for 'uniformity'...

and welcome to the board,

Your best bet is to buy a complete parts car. I paid $60 for a '75 dart that had a rebuildable 318, no steering column, no radiator and several busted windows. But it did have a new brake job on the front disks and a complete 8 1/4" rearend with leaky axle seals. I sold off the good parts from the parts car and my conversion was basically free.

Post subject:  Perfect topic timing!

I just secured a front disc conversion kit for my 72 swinger. It has lower control arms, spindles, rotors, and a master cyl. Additionally I acquired a 8.25 rear end with 3.21 gears and "posi" (Can't remember the MOPAR LSD name!!!). My question(s) is, What else is nessessary if I want to add a power brake boost? I'm not trying to drag the poster's topic off subject, just curious what else is needed to go vacuum boost on my ole 9" manual.

You'll need a brake booster unit (don't know what years fit), and a vacuum hose to go to the manifold. The MC is also different. If you go to a junkyard and find an A-body with similar looking mountings for the brake booster setup you can be pretty sure it'll fit. Pickup the whole MC, brake booster, and pushrod assembly and you'll save yourself the hassle of having to worry something'll be different from what you have(since I can't remember if the pushrod is long or not). Not sure how much easier braking is with the brake assist, always used manual.

Post subject:  booster

hey 72swing, also look for the angle bracket that attaches the booster/MC to the firewall, not sure if the earlier Abodies had them, i know the 73up had them, it raises the whole setup higher a few inches and sticks out on the firewall... i'm going to run an aluminum MC with no booster soon...

Post subject:  D*mn good info

Excellent,

The source for all the parts says that he has a 73-76 A-body Master Cyl with boost can that he'd give me for $20? Does that sound about right? :?:
