![]() So here's the '64 Valiant I got last year through a movie project I was working on. Grandma's car, 170, 59k original miles, Vero Beach FL, bought from 2nd owner. ![]() ![]() a few burnt valves, a 1bbl that coughed around corners, and the usual fried ammeter wires going through the dash melted and deformed... ![]() The interior is red, in nice condition, i think it was redone partly, not sure though, it could be original ![]() AM radio with blown speaker, aftermarket underdash AC unit blows cold after putting in a new condenser and some R-12$$$ ![]() ![]() here's the 225 being built at Chad's in Oviedo, he picked out some nice cam specs and we put together a nice motor. I did the porting on the head, keeping the stock size valves, i'll probably go to larger valves soon, i suppose Chevy 1.72/1.50 ![]() Here's the car with the movie paint job, color will probably change in the future when i do the paint for real (door jambs, engine bay, etc.) This is at Palmdale in CA, with the 225, supersix, 2 1/2" exhaust, 2.45 airplane gear running 18.5 @ 76 ![]() the car in LA amongst the most old cars I see in the US, LA has tons that are daily drivers, check the Ford wagon and truck... on the right side of my car is a 440 Challenger and a 360 Duster project going on... ![]() after changing to an 8 3/4" rear (given to me! from friend Oddio in LA, out of his Duster with 40k original miles.. he has 3 mopars and lots of parts to share) ... bought a 741 case, open 3.55 gear, it picked up some quickness, best time after this was 16.7 @ 81 (BBD and stock ex manifold) The transmission is stock with an external cooler. ![]() Mopar 6-1 header out of Chad's car, pre-dented. I got it JET-HOT coated for $200, which was pricey, but worth it! It is at least 20% cooler than other headers that I've run, I am totally sold on this coating. ![]() So, this header DOES fit in the early A body, without major mods or anything. It fits like any other header on a car, you need to dent some tubes, and install carefully. It helps to have an engine hoist ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So here it is now, I ran a 15.9 @ 86 the other night first time out with the Edelbrock 500, Clifford intake and header. That really allowed the cam and head flow to work, it was so choked up with the 2bbl and log manifold ex. It spins up to 6 grand (it'll hit the limiter on the MSD) but power is really only to about 5500-5700. The motor needs some timing and advance curve tweaking, adjust the throttle (has a 1/8"squeeze more on the throttle not being used), transmission work, maybe bigger valves, 340 valve springs, battery going in trunk, maybe a Flowmaster instead of the "performance turbo" on it now... also planned is the front end rebuild with offset UCA bushings, disc brakes, and a real alignment! |

Thanks, yeah, it seems to run pretty good, it'll push you back a bit once it get's breathing... I want to get it into the 14's, it may need the bigger valves and a better launching apparatus for that(trans situation) (stock converter)... for now, i'll try getting it to low 15's the car was in great shape, original paint and all, so it was kind of a let down that they wanted it painted cheap yellow, but the paint job actaully held back a few little surface rust spots... there isn't much bodywork to do, it needs a valence panel in front, and a few little metal panels welded in,... underneath is perfect... |

Looking good. Now a converter, with some stall speed, and a little lower gear, in the rear, some fine tuning, should be in the 14's. Mile per hour shows its making power. PS, what did you guy's, wind up with for a cam? |
