SSRN Columbus Race May 18-19, 2002

We got the Columbus race in but the weather was less then perfect. Thanks to the Cox Boys for all their effortRon Parker & Dale Rose fly their state colors

22 cars total made the event with a fair number of the "Southern Boys" making the trip North.
(Click here for the list of racers)
There was some racing done on Saturday between showers, but needless to say there was plenty of time to "hang-out" and talk to other SL6 racers. There was time to award Gordie Stevens the new SSRN Trophy Cup for his 2001 points win.

So how do you make a Slant Six go fast??The Cup changes hands

It is nice to see a few more new racers out at the event.

Wayne Henderson, Randy Kerr and Chuck Beatty have a go

Internet readers know Tim_K made the trip in his 71 Valiant, he has a story posted at www.slantsix.com

The Slant Six race went 4 rounds on Saturday before rain stopped the action. (Click Here for the Ladder)

Becky Shifflett, Rodney Hargis and Ron Hamby were the semi finalist with Rodney getting the "bye-run".

Ron won the round : .517 RT, 12.546 on a 12.60 dial-in to Becky's .541 RT, 12.414 on a 12.48 dial

The Final between Ron and Rodney would have to wait untill Sunday due to rain.

Sunday also had the $400.00 SL6 Fast 4 bonus race.
The Cox Bros. (11.23) ran Dale Rose (11.74),
Will Burns (11.90) ran Ron Hamby (12.30?)

Will Burns' "Sooo Low" Cuda, another 10 second Slant?!?
Will Burns must of had a freash bottle of NOS warm & ready because he won the heads-up Fast 4 battle with what is reported to be a high 10 second pass, we are scrambling to get the exact ET & MPH but it looks like we have yet another SL6 racer in the 10s!
Way to go Will !!

Ron Hamby ended-up winning the SL6 Final on Sunday. This put's Ron in a commanding lead after the first two races. (Click Here for the SSRN Point standings)
Spy shots of Ron Hamby's new engine set-upRon looks like he is going to be hard to catch this year so we sent our spy camera over to see what he has been doing to the engine. We now see that Ron has switched over to an external oil pump and what looks like a crank trigger ignition. There is also an NOS system plumbed-in.

We got a quick PIC of Becky's set-up before she slammed the hood on our fingers. (just kidding, Becky is a sweet heart and one great bracket racer)
What are all those hoses for???

Columbus continues to grow and more and more SL6 racers and friends from the northeast seem to be making the show. We were surprized to see vetern SL6 Racer Ron Heath at the event, he came down from Maine.
Seymour Pederson, Bernie Koshel, Dave Evans were other who came in from out of state just to watch.

Becky and Ron HeathAs they say, Next Stop, Thunder Valley Dragway,
