Yes.

Windage trays are *always* a benefit. Even at 2000 RPM, there's a lot of wind drag and oil whipping around a crankshaft. Why they weren't included on all engines, I'll never know.

The more appropriate question for you whether a windage tray is worth the cost and hassle of installing it in your engine. They're cheap and easy to install for big-block v8s (they bolt in between the oil pan and block). They're cheap and a good bit harder to install on small-blocks (have to remove a couple of main bearing caps and replace the bolts with special ones reinstall the caps, and then the tray).

But I gather that for a slant-6, they're not so cheap and also not so easy to install. Given that, the benefit is probably not worth it.

No. It ain't worth it.

Mike will make both trays and scrapers, but I don't believe he did any this year.

My scraper came from the guys in Florida. I think Mike's are cheaper because he gave me shyt about paying too much. It did require a lot of massaging to get it to fit, but that isn't unusual. The tray did too.

If you make the scraper out of aluminum, can't you just install it and let the crank grind it down to the correct size??????????

i just added one of kevin's scrapers to my 318 and thought it a good upgrade. over the years i have often heard about scrapers being as effective as a windage tray without any special hardware (use in place of your pan gasket. yes i did have to fit it to my engine (show me two bottom ends identical to the last millimeter) and no it wasn't a real pain in the ass. but i wouldn't recommend doing it in the car. although somebody could possibly make their own in a day or so, i don't think it would be worth it considering the $50 pricetag for an off the shelf performance part that's already sorted out. i'm going to order more for my future slant projects.

Kevin, you must remember the context of the conversation. When I bought your scraper I did not know that Mike made them too. My comment has nothing to do with the price of your scraper. I feel it was worth the money even though it did require a lot of massaging to clear the crank and rods.

It appears to me that Mike would have sold me one for less. Since Mike helps sponsor my car I hope you can see his position.

He is putting your scraper back in my motor during the freshen-up too.

Mike thought yours looked good too by the way.

I would like to know any positive data on how much good they do on a street motor though. I used one because my motor regularly sees over 6000 RPM.
