Dan set me up to test Poly bushings for the slant six spool mount. They arrived today! :D

This is what was in the box:

I've got a set of old mounts buried amongst all the stuff in my shop that I'll clean up for the installation. If some helpers make it down this weekend, I'll be able to run them as early as next week. 8)

Looks like he got the extra set of mounts I sent him to work with and a set of motor mount bolts so he could get the sleeve right...

I'll be due for a set in 3 weeks...better get my order in!!!!

The '62-'66 mounts are being (slowly as all hell) worked on over at Imperial Services. Johnny @ Polybushings works much faster; I'm in talks with him regarding the design and production of mounts for the early cars.

Today Fopar came up to assist with the poly conversion of my mount.

Here's what we started with:

From picking the old mount up off the driveway, to taking photos of the finished product took Richard and I about 30 minutes. Including breaks to get gatorades and stuff! :D

Uh...wow. I much rather have the "after" than the "before". Looks like a nice fit! I'll be keen to learn your thoughts after installation in the car. Is that a wire brush chucked into the drill you're using to clean up the shell/bracket?

I will be paying close attention to vibration and noise. I need to get a base line with some vibration analysis gear and I'll grab my sound meter for some true weighted testing. Now I have to re-remember which weighting to use.. Need some help here! C? :lol: I haven't turned the thing on since I pawned the overhead PA system off on a contractor out at work. :roll:

I was using a wire brush to knock the last of the rubber out of the mount. It has been cleaned to bare metal. I didn't bother painting the mount. I'll mask it and squirt it when it isn't spitting rain every ten or fifteen minutes. :wink:

Oh! PS: The mounts in the car now were new last year after MATS. So they've been in almost exactly a year.
They were a Carquest item that came from India if I remember right. I'll have to check that out. I remember looking at them and saying to Fopar, "I might be better off leaving the OEM mounts in..." :roll: The workmanship wasn't exactly stellar.

Anyway, they have been OK. My application is not a street car, so I will have different expectations of this mount than somebody that wants to listen to the stereo and have a headliner and trim and stuff.

My car is very noisy inside to begin with, so your results may vary. Keep that in mind. As soft as the material is, I may want to talk to Johnny about something that would be a bit too harsh for a road car.

No Special grease. I pushed the second bushing in with my hands most of the way, then put the press plates on either side and shoved them into the spool liner. I could probably just have stepped on the plates and been done. I have to justify having all these tools though!

This material is fairly soft. Not the rock hard type you may be expecting. I really don't think the sound and vibration will be elevated. Let me get some testing done though. :lol:
