This site sells extruded fuel rail stock at $10 per foot. Looks like you would have to machine it, but what a slick and cheap way to get a fuel rail! What do you all think?

Hate to burst your bubble, but thats nothing special. You can get blank fuel rail sections from all the major places. Last I checked a few months ago when I was doing mpfi - summit had it availible in 1, 2, and 3 foot sections.

You may want to think about having someone do a manifold and rail for you though. For ~$200 you can send an ordinary manifold in, and it comes out with bungs welded, fuel rail made, and hold downs fabricated. Add injectors and go.... If you have one of the clifford manifold with bosses already cast into it that just need drilling, its even cheaper.

If you have the machining skills, tools, and diy desire go for it, otherwise avoid the headache and leave it up to the people who've done it several times over already.

Oh, I didn't know that. $200 eh? Thats a pretty good deal. I need to price out the cost of the injuector bungs, but right now I am leaning towards converting an old one barrel intake to a fuel injection intake. But if I can get everything done for around $200, that might be the way to go. THanks Pierre!

Yup yup - went through all my options when I went from tbi to mpfi.

I originally had a clifford manifold with the precast bungs. I didn't want to down the car for too long, so plan was to buy a spare clifford manifold and send it out to have it done. I was pleasantly surprised by clifford when I called them to order the manifold - they had some already drilled out for mpfi, and sold me the rail for $20 extra. It wasn't the cast type rail, it was a tube with the injector fittings welded on and hose barbs at the end. 3/8" on one side, 1/4" on the other (why not 5/16" on both, don't ask me, but the 1/4" flows plenty enough for a return)

So if your serious about mpfi, call them to see if they have any instock left. I bent some aluminum plate 45deg to make the hold downs and that was that.

Otherwise, if your going to send a manifold to get machined - stick with a 2 barrel or clifford/offy. Spending money on getting a 1bbl manifold done up will be a waste - trying to adapt a modern throttle body on such a narrow opening will be too much. Using the 1920 or any 1bbl as a throttle body... well, doable, but just seems like its shortcutting things. A 2 bbl will open up the possibilities, and with a clifford/offy you can probably adapt any modern throttle body onto it with a plate.

Thanks for the tips! I will be getting a Offy soon, so I may just use that.

Any shop/company that should be avoided for efi conversions. Who does good quality work. I don't mean cliffords poor service reputation either.

Have heard good stories about Rance but he is expensive. I think he quoted me $400 for converting a slant manifold.

I can't remember where I got the $200 quote from. Maybe http://www.customefis.com or http://www.affordable-fuel-injection.com
