 Post subject: Transmission "brace"?
PostPosted: Tue Jul 31, 2001 9:58 am
I was just looking at another '64 Valiant the other day and noticed that it has a steel "brace" that runs from the pan rail on the left side of the engine to the transmission bellhousing face. My '64 Dart didn't have one when I got it, and the '75 225 that I rebuilt for the car didn'e either. Is this important? It has ~12k miles on there without it now. Maybe that is where some of the vibration comes from?

I have run them both ways, and have never had any trouble. They used them on V-8's too, and they always got taken off when headers went in, and I never had any trouble then either. I think it's main purpose in life is a little extra support for the bellhousing.

I do not think the missing "brace" is causing the vibration. I have lot's of them around if you need one or two.
