Hello all,
I have an '83 Dodge Ram with the old 225 /6 and the OD transmission. The leaning tower of power actually spit out an OD trans a few weeks ago, talk about power! Anyways I am looking for some mods that I can do to boost up the power, the 70 that is there. Here is what I've done already. Has 2 1/4 high flow exhaust w/o cat. conv., rebuilt carb, vac. adv. distrib and electronic ignition, orange box ECU, air pump disconnect, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, hi-po coil, 180 thermostat, stock 2bbl super six alum intake plus carb, 3.55 rear to replace the 2.76 gears, The engine has some miles on it and is worn so I'm not going to touch the heads or cam or internals for now. I got rid of all the access vacuum hose crap for emmisions because of failure. Can anyone think of any other little bolt ons? Any difference with a good flow air filter? Can you get bigger jets for the 2bbl carters? Any recommendations? Or a bigger carter? Any part numbers? A windage tray? Did they come on stock any years? Are they bolt on or do they require mods? Block off the EGR? I won't add a 4bbl or headers, just looking for any mods for the street and driveability! Thanks for any help! -Jim Derrig

You have already done most of the "bolt-on" stuff.
Sooner or later you will have to do the head, that will net some good power gains.
For now, be sure to "feed" the carb. with cool outside air. (not "BBQed" underhood air) and "tweek" the jetting and distributor advance for max performance. (the drag strip's clock helps with this process)

Are there jets readily available for the Carter 2bbl? I am not sure what model number it is, but would you recommend a particular size? Also would bolting on a clutch fan make a little difference? Would the clearance still be the same between the stock fan and the clutch fan and the radiator? Other than that I'm out of ideas! Thanks for the help. -Jim

The fan clutch is a good idea. I have one on my 66 Dart but it is a tight fit. Your truck should have more room.

As for re-jetting and jet size / availability, that's all "trial & error work". Go to the wrecking yards to see if you can get (find) some "spare sets" and try some jet changes from there.
