I'm looking for opinions on which intake I should use on my 62 Valiant
street cruiser.
I have a 225 over-bored .040, milled head, large valves and Crane cam.
This is a Street Cruiser, NOT a racer.
I'd like opinions on which manifold to use, a 2 bbl, 4 bbl, or the Offy
2 carb setup.
I'm looking for ease of street driveability (and looks).

For street driveability I'd skip a 4bbl.

Twin 1bbl looks flash and isn't hard to dial in for reliable street operation.

Single 2bbl looks boring and is somewhat easier to dial in for reliable street operation.

Triple sidedraft SU is a showstopper when the hood goes up and is more involved to tune and synch, but tuning parts and tools are 100% available, and once tuned and synched, they tend to stay that way.

It sort of depends where your priorities lie!

Years ago I used an Offy 4 bbl with my Carter AFB from my 273 HiPo.
It ran well and needed very little tuning to be streetable.
I'm Old School (66 years old :) ) and do my tuning by ear.
Although I agree about the SU carbs I'm afraid they're more than I
can handle.
Right now I'm leaning toward the Offy dual 1 bbl's

the 2x1 intake is pretty simple and i have used one for a while with little problems. however, a few have mentioned on this site the poor availability of good cores for bbs and 1945 carbs. i'd go for NOS carbs or find a pair of identical carbs and have the throttle shafts bushed by a competent carb shop to avoid any vacuum leaks or tuning problems. also avoid any cheapie parts store reman carbs as i have gotten bad ones with the aforementioned sloppy throttle shafts.

Frankly I would just go for a two barrel intake. Plenty of performance and economy. As far as "flash" goes, most people these days don't even know what a carburetor is, much less why three is more impressive than one.

I like the four barrel myself, I have run a 390 on the streets for decades without any fuss

3 carbs is like super-sizing.............

Bigger(more) is better.

So they might not know what a carb is, but there's lot's of them, so it has to be good............

I have run the 4 barrel (clifford) intake for about 5 years, and my dad about ten before that without any trouble. and this car was a daily driver in Minnesota, back when we used to have winters.
